What's Your Take?
Are you one of the 96 million people in the United States who are single?
As CNN reports, “that means 43 percent of all Americans over the age of 18 are single, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. ‘Single’ is defined as adults who have never been married, are divorced or are widowed in the bureau’s America’s Families and Living Arrangements survey of 2009.”
More stats: “Of the singletons, 61 percent of them have never said “I do.” Twenty-four percent are divorced and 15 percent are widowed.”
Clearly, if you are single, are not alone. And, hopefully, not lonely because it is a good reason to celebrate, being single and all, especially this week because (drum roll)…it’s National Singles Week.
So ditch those boring married friends who stuck in their routines, ditch your parents if they’re still together as a couple, and ditch all those memories of online dating gone bad.
Grab your BFFs (girls and guys) and celebrate being YOU, alone, with no one changing your morning routine and no one to explain to why there’s leftover toothpaste in the sink every morning. Oh wait, and you don’t have to share the bathroom sink either.
Okay, now I’m beginning to get a few pangs of jealousy now as I write.
Think of a grand plan to glorify your singleness and enjoy the moment. It’s a great reason to party especially with other peeps in your demographic. I hope you singletons out there do.
And, let us know what you love about being single. Here are some starters from Glamour about why being single rocks – just add your own below:
“You can eat chips in bed, and no one will bitch about the crumbs.”
“It’s fun because you don’t have to shave your legs all the time.”
“I can have friends who are boys without worrying what my boyfriend thinks.”
“It forces me to take the time to think about what I really want and what I can do to achieve it. Coupledom inflicts its victims with complacency.”
“I like being single because it opens me up to new experiences. I can do whatever I want without having to check in with anyone.”
“It’s fun because you can marathon Real Housewives and feel no shame!”
“I like being single because I haven’t found someone who I spoon with perfectly yet, and that’s at the top of my list!”
“I like that I don’t have to be tied down to just one person. I like meeting new guys and having fun.”
