What's Your Take?

Have you ever been overcome by an intense craving for brownies only to find that you don’t have all of the necessary ingredients? I know I have. There are times when I’ve thought nothing would be more perfect than a warm, freshly-baked brownie – only to discover that there are no eggs in the fridge, or that we’re fresh out of milk, or that there’s no brownie mix in our house at all.

If you were ever in my situation, you could just drive out and purchase these ingredients, sure. But if you don’t have a car, you’re out of luck.

Or if you’re a college student living in a dormitory for most of the year, like myself, you probably don’t even have access to a kitchen. In fact, you probably don’t even keep any perishable food around like milk or eggs, for fear of forgetting about it and letting it go bad.

Well, never fear, because there’s a new and very easy way for you to make brownies with only a few simple ingredients, and without using too many kitchen appliances.

Introducing the Mug Brownie! It’s a brownie that you can make right in a mug, and all you need to bake this sucker is a microwave. No oven required, and you don’t need any eggs, milk, or butter either.

Interested? Here’s the recipe:

4 tablespoons of flour

4 tablespoons of sugar

2 tablespoons of cocoa powder

2 tablespoons of vegetable oil

2 tablespoons of water

a pinch of salt, a mug

microwave

Also, an actual tablespoon measurer to ration out all the necessary ingredients is always helpful.

First, take all of your dry ingredients and combine them in the mug. Then add your water and vegetable oil to the mix. Be sure to stir it all very thoroughly, leaving no large clumps in the mixture. Next, simply pop the mug into your microwave and cook it for about one minute and 20 seconds. The actual cooking time may vary depending on your microwave, but around a minute tends to ge the job done.

When you think your mug brownie’s been fully cooked, pull your mug out and let it cool for a bit. You can also throw on a couple of scoops of ice cream with it if you like.

So when you’re hit with that urgentt midnight craving for something sweet and chocolatey, get yourself a mug and try this recipe out.
